Coming to the end of a nineteen year running career,
I realised there was an opening in the provision of quality
care for both recreational and sports participants. I
found that a lot of therapy providers just wanted a quick
turnaround and did not always put a lot of effort into
their treatments. After studying Sports Massage Therapy
in 1993/4, I realised this was the path I wanted to take.
Seeing a person walk out of my treatment room feeling
markedly better than when they walked in, is truly gratifying.
I spent the next few years working with teams such as
Barry Town AFC, Inter Cable-Tel AFC, Welsh Athletics Association
and Barry RFC.
I then undertook Fitness studies to enhance the service
I could offer. Understanding correct exercise techniques
and energy systems would help clients perform more effectively.
In 1999, I successfully completed the Premier Sports
Therapy certificate. This was purely to enhance my skills
and offer a wider ranging service. This covered taping,
Ultrasound, cryotherapy and a deeper understanding of
injuries and rehabilitation.
In 2001, I joined the LCSP Register of Remedial Massage
and Manipulative Therapists. They provide Professional
Indemnity and a Code of Ethics to adhere to.
The next few years I spent studying NeuroLinguistic Progamming
(NLP). This looks at communication and personal excellence,
and has been invaluable for dealing with clients and helping
them achieve their goals.
2007 has been a busy year. In January I attended a Kettlebell
Masterclass and completed the Welsh Weight Training Associations
Coach award. In March I completed the REPS Level 3 Advanced
Instructor Award, including advanced programming. During
the Summer I have qualified as a Pilates Teacher and undertaken
the Fitness Wales BackCare course.
In 2008, after nearly 18 months of study, I successfully
completed the Society of Sports Therapists Diploma course
that should lead to State Registration in the near future.
